Saucy Fudge Pudding Cake
Sarah sent this one in.
This cake is a recipe from an old 1920's school book. I dated a guy in high school who's mom used to make it. I was absolutely crazy about it. I have been searching for this recipe for years and I finally got it from a lady I work with. It is easy to make and you only need one bowl!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 white sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Stir together in bowl and add:
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
Mix altogether. It will make a very thick batter. Pour into a ungreased 8 inch casserole pan.
In empty bowl (same one you mixed the batter in), mix:
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 3/4 cup boiling water
Stir to dissolve sugar.
Pour over batter and do not mix!
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is best served hot with vanilla ice cream. When it is finished, you have a chocolate cake on top and hot fudgy pudding underneath. You can increase the recipe and make it as big as you like. It always turns out!

Oh my gosh! I loved this! And so did everyone at our Memorial Day get together! I had my doubts when I was mixing it up... but I just trusted the recipe. The only change I made was instead of all-purpose flour and baking soda, I used self-rising flour. There was absolutely NONE left... and I even doubled the recipe!
I am making this right now... 10 minutes to go...
